About The Brewery

About The Brewery

Nakazawa Sake Brewery was founded in 1825. While making his living as a village headman in the Matsuda area, he devoted himself to sake brewing, using Ashigara rice produced in Kanagawa Prefecture. At the time, the brewery was a purveyor to the Okubo family as an official merchant of the Odawara domain, and when the brewery offered sake to the Okubo family, it received the name "Matsubiyu" from the lord of the domain, Mr. Okubo. The name "Matsu Biyu" is derived from the following two words Matsu" refers to the rows of pine trees along the Sako River that runs next to the brewery.
