Flavour Chart

Flavour Chart

Maou offers a remarkably smooth and graceful taste, unlike the robust character of many traditional sweet-potato shochu. It opens with delicate aromas of ripe peach, pear, and vanilla, followed by a gentle sweetness balanced by clean mineral undertones. The texture is silky and refined, leading to a long, mellow finish with subtle notes of steamed rice and white flowers. Its elegant fragrance and round palate make it a shochu that feels closer to fine sake in spirit — soft, pure, and beautifully balanced.

About The Brewery

About The Brewery

Hakuyo Brewing Co., Ltd., located at 618-6 Shirogane, Kinko-cho, Kimotsuki-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, was founded in Meiji 37 (approximately 1904). It stands as one of the historic traditional shochu distilleries on the Osumi Peninsula. The company steadfastly uses locally grown “Kogane Senkan” sweet potatoes as its primary ingredient, combining them with伏流水 (underground spring water) and unique distillation techniques to craft its signature premium sweet potato shochu, including the renowned ‘Maou’ series. Adhering to the principle of “quality over scale,” the brewery maintains its commitment to craftsmanship despite its remote location. Its rare style and artisanal approach have earned it immense recognition among shochu enthusiasts nationwide.
